Hoodia gordonii is the new kid on the block when it comes to getting our eating habits under control. When we get used to eating a certain amount of food and thereby ingesting so many calories a day, we hit a maintenance level of weight. Our activity level plays a part in this too.
So if you eat 3,500 calories a day, you might start packing on the pounds. In order to lose weight you have to cut back on your calories. There are only two ways to do this. Cut down on calories and exercise more. Lower the intake of fuel and increase the burn off of fuel and you will lose weight.
For instance, you started walking 3 miles a day at a normal rate of speed, you will burn 300 extra calories per day. It will take you 12 days in order to burn off one pound. A pound is the equivalent of 3500 excess calories.
At the same time, if you chose to eat an additional Big Mac, large fries and a coke, you are adding 1,000 calories to your intake. If you did this every day for the 12 days, you would gain 2 pounds even though you were walking 3 miles a day.
This is where hoodia gordonii plus helps. It cuts your appetite to the point where bad calorie laden meals are not appealing to you. Hoodia gordonii plus is almost a miracle pill. If you eat less, which you will with hoodia, you will lose weight. End of story.
Hoodia gordonii has shown itself to be effective at decreasing appetites that a Phytopharm study showed that people who took Hoodia gordonii products ate about 1000 calories less a day.
Because it is the active ingredient in new drugs, Hoodia gordonii may have side effects that have not had time to surface yet. It is possible that down the road some side effects will appear. But because it has been in use in South Africa for centuries, this is not a big concern to current users.
There are some cautions though. Because hoodia also reduces thirst, you have to be careful to drink lots of fluids because you could accidentally become dehydrated.
It is not cheap. Hoodia gordonii drugs often cost about $250 per kilogram. Or to put it another way, it costs about $100 a pound. The plant is endangered and it’s exportation out of South Africa is closely controlled.
